Alimony
In New Jersey, alimony, also known as spousal support, is not automatically granted in a divorce proceeding. Instead it is discretionary with the court, who will examine a variety of factors, including:
- Relative incomes of each spouse
- Earning capacity
- Length of the marriage
- Age of the parties
- Health of the parties
- Whether there is child support involved

Child Support
When making child support determinations, the court will also consider various factors. Unlike alimony, however, the court will apply a formula to calculate the level of support. We will assess your situation and identify for the court those factors that should be considered, such as age of the child, relative incomes of the parties and potential earning power of each spouse. We will also identify other expenses that should be covered by a child support order, including health insurance, child care and educational costs.
